### Tutorials and Information
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: As a Helper It is a good idea that you memorize all of this info for it will help you in the future with xbc helping.
Also, as a helper, try to stick with one name, this increases awareness in you by the ops if they can track one nick.

____________________________________________________________________________________
#1 XBC IRC Info
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 You Should always treat the person or user that you are helping with the up-most respect, no matter how rude or inapproiate they are.

2 You should not Spam, Repeat, Use Profanity, or Use Action Test that often Example
(< !idle (Username) !menu !clan setup /me >)

3 Try not to leave a person while in the middle of helping them. (It is rude and not very helpeful to the other helpers becuase they usually have to start over with the User )

4 Do not Impersonate An operator, its obvious that you arent and makes you look foolish when an op bans you.

5 Do not ask the ops for Voice or for any thing of that sort. ( If you ask the less likly you are to get it.)

6 If OP's are not ( +v +h +o ) Don't ask them to make clans, VOP, Ban Information Requests or any thing esle.

7 If you are a Helper with auto-voice, do not idle while voiced. It is not wise to do so because people will ask you for help and you will not be there. Even if you are going away for 2 or 3 minutes be sure to do ( !-v ) Its easy to type and all you have to do to get voice back is type ( /help )

8 Try not to help too many Users at one time, more that 3 can get confusing. *That is not good. & do not interupt another person helping another user. it makes them confused and irritates the person that was helping the user.

9 When you are helping some one and you come to a point where you can't help them any more, don't just stop talking to them. Yell them that you can no longer assist them and ask and OP that in on duty to help them. Also when the OP is helping them watch what the OP is doing with them and telling them what to do. *Take notes for future refrence*

10 Do not act immature and start doing random things and acting like the Help Chan is your personal chat room.

11 If some one is spamming in the channel ask them nicely to stop and tell the to type ( /game ) If they do not stop don't take things into your own hands infor an OP and they will take care of it for you.

12 If you can abide by these rules you should be a great helper in the Help Channel and its always good to have people to help!

If you would like any more info about othe xbc rules and regulations go here.

#3 Modding
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We DO NOT provide support for modding in the help chan nor do we help people with it. If they need help with modding tel them to ask in game1 or have them visit www.xbox-scene.com.
Be sure to make it brief and to point. Modding talk is not tolerated and may be pointed out by any ops that are available.

____________________________________________________________________________________
#4 Xbox Live
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

XBC Has NOTHING to do with xbox live.
If you want to be nice, you can point them in the right direction by telling them to call 1800-4myxbox or have them visit www.xbox.com/support/

Xbox live chat should be considered the same as Modding Chat.

____________________________________________________________________________________
#4-2 Xlink Kai
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xlink Chat is STRICTLY prohibited in the help chan. We do not support, nor give any info about it. Tell any user that asks about it that we don't help with that issue and to go to game1 chat.

____________________________________________________________________________________
#5 Only XBC Help Related Support in the Chat
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The help channel is not for talking even though some times we do, we should not, and we should ask other Helpers nicely to stop talking if they are not helping.

If someone asks for support regarding other issues, nicely tell them to go to game1 and ask there.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PMs as a helper should only be used when helping with issues that cannot be talked about in the chat (modding, etc.) As a helper this should be kept to a mimimum. If you do this while voiced, you should tell the op, or devoice (!-v) to keep idling to a minimum.

#22 Ping + Lag
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ping Explanation
Here is an explanation of what Ping means. Ping is the amount time it takes for information to get from the host to the joiner. The larger the number the worse the Latency (a.k.a. Lag) will be. If you have a ping of 100 you game will be 1/10th of second behind the host. The host on the other hand will have no lag let alone to him/herself will show a ping of N/A The reason for this is a host will not ping itself as it takes no time for the packets of information to make a round trip. The host has to judge the lag by the pings of those joining.

"How to Reduce Lag" Explanation

This will help you lower your ping and lag. Please make sure all programs are off except XBC. Also make sure that the only things that are pulling on the connection are the Xbox and the XBC ready comp.
Also please go here and download this free software. It will remove Spy Ware from your comp. For a definition of spy ware please visit the site. http://www.safer-networking.org/
Also try this program: http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
The TCP Optimizer is a free Windows program designed to help optimize your Internet connection. Just download and run, no installation required.
Also try this unplugs your modem and/or Router from the wall power outlet, wait 2 minutes, and then plug back in. After doing so, reboot your PC and your Xbox

#24 VOP's
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VOP Information

Here at XBConnect we have what is called a Voiced Approved Server. What does having a VOP do for me. Having a VOP gives you auto voice in Game1, putting you at the top of the chat list. It also puts a lightning bolt next to your server name letting other members know that you have a tested good connection on XBC, that is virtually lag free. This will get more people to join your server. NOTE: YOU must have a 500 or above upload speed in order to be concidered for an Approved server.

VOP SpeedTest

To become a VOP server, you must first go to www.testmy.net , then go to Upload test(Look at the top), and then take a SMAR test. Once you have taken the test, send me the "Validation Link" found at the bottom of the page. If you are having trouble finding it, look at this picture and enlarge it. http://www.xbcimagehosting.com/favdaman/VALID.JPG Look at the highlighted text, that will be an example of the Validation Link. If the results are good enough, I will add you to the "To be play-tested" list. When an op next has a free moment he will PM you and test your server for lag.

Approved Server Lag Testing

At the moment we test Lag for an approved server with two games. Please select one of the two games for information.

Testing with Halo 1
(A) 6 players/4 Xboxes are needed in your room at the time of testing for the server to be accepted.

(B) ANY type of game can be played: Capture The Flag, King Of The Hill, etc.
(C) If the server seems to have lag, the server will be denied.
Note: Bullet lag will most likely occur, and is not a serious problem. Therefore, bullet lag is acceptable for Halo 1. Although, too much lag will not be accepted.

Testing Lag with Halo 2

(A) You need a min of 10 people in the room at the
time of testing for the server to be accepted.

(B) You MUST host 3 different types of games. Below is a list of the game variants that will be used.

a. Type: Snipers - Map: Coagulation - Number of Kills: 15 - Mode: FFA

b. Type: Swords - Lockout - Number of Kills: 15 - Mode: FFA

c. Type: Rockets - Map: Ivory Tower - Number of Kills:15 - Mode: FFA

(C) If 2 out of the 3 games have connection problems
and/or has lag. The server is denied. Note: A little lag is not a problem, and will be accepted.

VOiced Approved Server Help
Suggestion: If you are having problems getting the required amount of people in your room, try advertising in game 1.

Note: After the game has been played, please wait for the OP to make his decision. If he accepts, then your server has been approved.

Note: You will have to restart Xbconnect for the changes to be made if the OP has accepted your server AND added you to the Approved Servers list. Please do NOT beg the OPs to test your server, as they may be busy. If the OP denies your server, then please do NOT harass the OP, or beg him to test it again. This will most likely get your chances for a second chance denied. I hope this has helped you. Thank you :)

There are also some rules for approved servers, here are a few.
1. You can not advertise your server in game 1 or it will be taken away at the OP's discrestion.
2. No Profanity in the server description.
3. We reserve the right to take away your server at any time if any xbc rules are broken. ( At the OP's discretion )
You will be notified if it is taken away and you will be give a reason why.
Also here is an email if you need to ask any questions about your VOP. VOP@xbconnect.com Send ONLY ONE e-mail per request please.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------- Setup A ----------

Step 1: Plug your network cable (RJ-45 cable) that comes from your modem into the uplink port of your hub. (Make sure that your uplink is switched to "on").

Step 2: Take an RJ-45 cable and run it from one of the ports of the hub, directly to the Network Interface Card (NIC) installed in your computer.

Step 3: Take another RJ-45 cable and run it from a different port of your hub directly to your xbox.

NOTE: A switch may be used in place of a hub with the same basic setup.

That's it! No other network changes should be needed for this configuration. Your Xbox is now on the same network as your PC

---------- Setup B ----------

Step 1: Plug your network cable(RJ-45 cable) that comes from your modem into the WAN port of your router.

Step 2: Take an RJ-45 cable and run it from one of the ports of the router, directly to the Network Interface Card (NIC) installed in your computer.

Step 3: Take another RJ-45 cable and run it from a different port of your router directly to your xbox.

NOTE: If your router has a built in firewall, you will need to forward ports 8602 both incoming and outgoing to the internal ip address of your pc. Consult your device manaul for port forwarding or visit our Router Configurations section.

That's it! Your Xbox is now on the same network as your PC.

---------- Setup C ----------

Step 1: Plug your network cable(RJ-45 cable) that comes from your modem into first NIC card on your PC.

Step 2: Take a RJ-45 Crossover Cable and run it from the second NIC card on your PC, directly to your Xbox.

NOTE: A Crossover Cable is only needed if you are connecting the Xbox directly to a NIC card. This type of network setup also requires the use of WinICS (tutorial found here http://www.practicallynetworked.com/Article.asp?aid=11&p=2 ) or a program such as WinRoute© (downloadable from the world wide web). Consult the manual for specific instructions on how to set this up or visit our WinRoute Configuration section.

That's it! Your Xbox is now on the same network as your PC.

---------- Setup D ----------

Step 1: Plug your USB cable that comes from your modem into your PC's USB port. This should already be done, if you have a usb modem for your current internet connection.

Step 2: Take a RJ-45 Crossover Cable and run it from an installed NIC card on your PC, directly to the Xbox.

#28 Two Xboxes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is how to set up XBC so that you can join with 2+boxes:
1) Go into Options - General options, click Clear List

2) Plug in ONLY the first XBox into the router/hub

3) Find the first XBox

4) Unplug the first XBox from the router, plug in the second
5) Find this XBox (do NOT Clear List again)

6) Plug back in the first XBox

Now you should be able to join games with 2 XBoxes, however, it will be laggier than usual. XBC Pro has a feature called MultiBox Compress, which reduces this lag. It is purchasable for $15 at www.xbconnect.com/downloads.php

#29 How To Become an OP + Info
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----- Become an OP ------

Here is some information on becoming an OP.
The staff notices those who have spent countless hours in the Help channel and the Help forums.
They are then asked to join the staff on a trial basis so that we know they have what it takes.
Being an Op is not all it is cracked up to be. We have to put in countless hours of work to improve XBC and help users connect.
There are times that are hard and times that are amazing. Regardless this position requires a strong technical Background.
We will ask you, don't ask us. Note: Anyone who asks a staff member to become an Op will never be considered for the position.

----- Information -----

There are 4 stages to being and becoming a helper/op.

1) Regular user- You must earn voice before you can be voiced, each time you must re-earn it.
** Remember: Do not ask for voice. Ops will give it when they feel it is appropriate.
REMEMBER: People with clan tags in their name CANNOT be voiced, so please help on one without it.

2) A-Voice (Auto-Voice) - This is the second stage. To earn this you must be recommended by the ops and approved by the admins.
WE will tell you when we think you have earned this. REMEMBER: Do not ask us for this.

3) Training - This is what you achieve after we have seen that you are capable of becoming an op, however this can take as long, if not longer for some people than achieving a-voice.

4) Half-op - Information about this will be given when the time is appropriate.
*** Helping and becoming an op is a long-term commitment. We do not want you to be discouraged by this however. ***
*** Remember, becoming and being an op requires maturity and professionalism above all else. ***

#29 How XBC Works
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an explanation of how XBC Works. XBC works with all Xbox games that have a System Link.

XBC tricks your Xbox into thinking your Computer is another system linked Xbox. The Xbox believes it in on a LAN with you Computer and starts to send packets of information. XBC grabs these packets (which contain game data) and sends them to another tricked Xbox across the world. In a sense consider this a Global Area Network (GAN)

#30 Can't Detect
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 7 things that could prevent XBC from finding the xbox:
1. You are using the wrong cables. Check http://www.xbconnect.com/index.php?topic=XboxNetwork&menu=Help%20Centre_XboxNetwork for details with pictures. Crossover (aka System Link) is not the same as patch.
2. You have firewall or antivirus software running. They need to be configured. http://www.xbconnect.com/index.php?topic=Firewall&menu=Help%20Centre_Firewall
3. You get a Winpcap error when you load XBC.
4. You are not at the System Link screen. In Halo, it says "Looking for Games..." at the top.
5. Your NIC (Ethernet card) is not enabled.
6. You Don't have your ports forwarded to 8602 for UDP and TCP for you computer that is running XBC. http://www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/XBConnect/XBConnectindex.htm
7. Make sure your computer that is running XBC is not wireless. This is the most common solution to solving the above problem.

#31 Dirty Disk
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is how to fix the Dirty Disc Error.
To clear this, click on Multiplayer then select split screen and go all the way through until it says waiting for players. Back out to the Multiplayer menu and now select System Link. Do this every time before you play.

#32 Wireless Problems
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When using XBC the computer can be wireless but you must connect the Xbox directly to the comp with a crossover wire. Also you will have to setup ICS.

The Xbox can be wireless but both the box and comp cannot be wireless. It's one or the other.
I do not suggest this though. Wireless connections are fickle and have the tendency to drop your connection temporarily which will kick you from the game. Try keeping both the box and computer wired.

Now if you are using the wireless adapter for the Xbox. Please make sure it is plugged in and go into your general Options and Check the Wireless Adapter Option on the right of the menu.
Try clearing all the Xbox Mac Address and find your Xbox again to make sure everything is connected.

#33 How to Properly Uninstall XBC (For changing versions, etc.)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is how to Uninstall XBC.
All of this must be done after you have closed XBC. Please do not do this with XBC still up and running.

1.) Go to your "My Computer" select the C drive and the go into the Program Files Folder.
2.) Select the XBConnect 4 folder. In this folder double click on Unwise.
3.) This will launch our uninstall program. Click on custom uninstall. Then click on "Select All" and then next. Do this for the screens that follow. Reboot your computer.
4.) Then go back to http://www.xbconnect.com/index.php?topic=Downloads and download a fresh version of XBConnect.
